One detail that's easy to miss is that the spambots often bypass the form page and hit the write page (I suppose that's hiphood.tpl in this case) directly. The captcha *should* take care of that but it depends on exactly how you've scripted it. In any case, add a simple script to the write page to reject all hits not coming from the URL where the form is. It won't hurt and it will take care of a substantial number of spamhits. Oh no, they're bots all right - Virus powered ones of course. I believe all open web forums - and any online form that looks even remotely like a message board - have been under heavy attack since last summer. It starts with some rather bland and obviously generiv "like your site" messages, probably just to see if they get through. Then after a few days, the spam starts flooding in. To give you an idea of the scale of the problem: The last open forum I had was removed at the beginning of December. Since I was in a hurry, I forgot to remove the "write" page. The form was removed, the messages database was removed, all that was left was an isolated with no links to it and conatining just a WebDNA snippet to add entries to a non-exisitant database. That page has been hit 9000 times so far this month! About half an hour ago I uploaded a new page to that URL, one with a log script on it. It'll be really interesting to see what turns up.
