You might find that adding blank documents (ones that only contain the tags) to the urls under attack will lighten the load on the server a little bit. Seems it's easier for the server to hand out a 10 byte document than a 404. > I would really love to find out a way to get rid of them (on a > unix server)! Ummm... Capture those ip addresses and ping 'em to death? Or build a central register of ip addresses of infected computers and block their access wherever possible? Nah forget it! The situation isn't bad enough to justify measures that drastic ... yet. I think the only thing we can do is work together to raise the general awareness of internet security. I don't think many computer owners allow their computers to be a part of a trojan network on purpose, it's all down to ignorance. It's interesting to notice that so many of the attacks seem to come from some specific countries/regions reltaively new to the web. There's no reason why a Russian computer should be more vulnerable to a trojan than a US one. It has to be because the average US web surfer knows more about how to protect his computer than the average Russian. And that again of course means computer security information campaigns does work in the long run.
