It is however one of the most obscure development environments out there. I'd be surprise if more than 100 shops on the planet are actively developing websites in WebDNA.Your execs are not opinion leaders. Rather than educate their peers on how they have selected a superior development environment, they would prefer to have one more thing in common with their fellow executives at other corporations. It is this herd mentality that lifts inferior products to dominant market shares. They and their peers know (well, not really -- none could tell you what languages are used for ASP) what ASP is through marketing and word of mouth. They know they gotta have it to be successful. That other company has it and they are successful.Take a few simple snippets of webdna and replicate them in visual basic. Show your executives how a few lines of webdna require tens, hundreds, and in some cases thousands of lines of visual basic to replicate. Explain that with hundreds of thousands of excess lines of code in a project that it will take longer, costs more and is more likely to break than what you using. Also mention that it will be slower. You can't place an appropriate value on WebDNA based on how many people or companies are using it. The counter argument that the execs make is that it will be harder to add staff members who know how to use it since it is so obscure. The answer to that is that WebDNA is simple to learn and use. In my last company I had more than 10 designers who were capable of integrating WebDNA with their HTML code. You wouldn't necessarily want to have to train designers to learn visual basic.Smith Micro will not tell you how many people use WebDNA. But if you are determined to get a rough number, we can give it a try. Let's assume that companies actively developing with WebDNA are subscribers to this list. This may or may not be a valid assumption, but live with it. So a head count on this list would give you a number of users. Last time I did this, we barely broke 100. But let's look again.Go to http://uttermohlen.com/tasks/countme.htm to have your IP counted. Thanks, PaulOn 7/2/02 12:41 PM, Pedro Rivera wrote:> Does Smith Micro have a list of companies that use WEBDNA?
