texte = Thanks for your help Rupert. The Email and Triggers weren't the problem in my case, but it did lead me to the cause. I had to go to the "WebMerchant Store Setup" option in admin, enable the triggers associated with each store, save the changes and then disable it again (for the ones that are disabled). Basically, I toggled all of the stores, saving in between and the run-away WebCatalog process is no more.
