If you read my post, I stated that different distros do different things. for example, I believe Ubuntu has multiple .profile files... which may affect your umask setting. Though I don't know if that is your problem or not, just be aware that you are in a new environment and need to learn about it... especially before assuming things. Also, I don't know what you are doing exactly and if this applies, but FYI, umask is a 'subtractive' setting.. meaning, depending on what your perms are set at originally, it can only subtract to the desired settings. (it can't set perms explicitly) Like I said, we'll look into this further when priorities permit, but for now, you have options to reach your desired goals.
