texte = To anyone who is familiar with BannerSleuth, The following is a description of the problem we have encountered and the remedies we have tried. The Bannersleuth system that we use controls the banner ads in three sites (the sections in the admin refer to pages in the three sites.). When we append a new ad to the database (through the create new ad link in the banneradmin area), immediately after appending to the database, the record is present in the database but within a minute, the record disappears. We had the database open in BBEdit before appending, then opened a copy right after appending, with the new record appended to the end (the last record in the database), but after a minute, upon opening the ads.db in BBEdit the last record goes missing again. The append command is followed by a [closedatabase], so it is not an issue of the changes being saved to the RAM but not to the disk (as can also be seen from the fact that the record can be seen in BBEdit immediately after appending). One way to explain the behavior noted above would be if there were a delete command taking place, but the only template with the delete command never gets loaded/executed as seen from the webcat.debug file. So we are sure that there is no deletion of the added record. The last ad that stays in the database was appended on 28th of June. We upgraded to version 4 on the 3rd of July. We did find one gremlin that we zapped but that didn't help any. We've had this bannersleuth system fro a long time (at least six months) but this is the first time that we've encountered this problem of not being able to append to the database. However before the upgrade, we used to get a lot of thread error file for the ads.db (about 500/week) but since the upgrade there hasn't been even one. The bannersleuth is one of our heaviest traffic applications and is invariably the first one to load in the RAM after a flushdatabases. Has something been changed in the multi-thread handling in the new version that might be causing this?Sincerely, Jaishankar Jayaram.Jaishankar Jayaram, Database Architect, Interactive Ink, Inc.
