texte = In our Vote.WA.Gov project we use an administrative server which holds the databases, and up to 3 G4's running public access, using the databases on the admin server. The servers mount the admin server, and we create a symbolic link to the databases. use TCP Connect to inform the other servers when an update was made, then flush. We started this with OS9 in 1999, then migrated the same concept to OSX. There was no money in the state's budget to redeploy to MySQL, so we kept it that way. Mind you, when they took it in house for the 2004 General, they spend more money on it for that one election that in the entire 7 years we ran it for them combined, and produced a distinctly inferior product - but that is another story. There are some other ways to update the servers as well - using CURL to FTP the files on change to the public servers, then spawn a flush command; etc. If anyone wants to see how we did this using just WebDNA, please contact Bob Mosebar at bobm@hewittco.com. Our VoteWashington.Org product, which handles county level reporting, has been redone to MySQL with WebDNA as the scripting front end; and we are using multiple servers on our next iteration. Very straightforward. We find that a mix of SQL requests and then creating WebDNA tables to message the data is very efficient and makes for extremely easy code to maintain - a major requirement of the election system since the dynamics change so rapidly.
