Not all robots will obey that file, but it should keep the noise down to an acceptable whine.Secondly, when you notice the slowdown, check to see what hosts are connected to your system (netstat works for both Windows and *nix or OS/X, don't know about classic Mac). See if you have lots of connections from a few IP's or lots of connections from all over.Thirdly, temporarily enable the Debug log (in the Preferences), which logs every single page requested, just prior to returning it to the client. Make sure you have lots of diskspace and turn the debugging off when you have captured enough to analyze (this _will_ slow your system down further, but it is very valuable information). Once you have a file, look at what is being requested. This will sometimes show where you have coding errors and it will also show if a single IP address is requesting the same thing over and over (an error in your logical flow that has captured a spider).HTHJohn-- John PeacockDirector of Information Research and TechnologyRowman & Littlefield Publishing Group4720 Boston WayLanham, MD 20706301-459-3366 x.5010fax 301-429-5747-------------------------------------------------------------This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list
