Authenticating via SQL server

texte = Hiya. Has anyone put anything together that authenticates users via an external SQL server? The current idea for an Intranet Store..... 1) User visits site - adds products to cart. 2) User clicks "proceed to order" from shopping cart page, and is then asked to login via a SSL protected Invoice page. 3) WebDNA checks an external SQL database whether user is valid, and authenticates accordingly. 4) WebDNA also checks SQL server for users credit balance (3) looks like being the area needing most work, ideally I'd also like to find a solution which doesn't rely on cookies.
