Usually they get tricked into signing with low rates which follow up with a letter a few months into their contract that says Visa and Mastercard have raised their rates and therefore your new rate is now much higher. Some Merchant Services Companies will even hold your funds for upto six months when you switch as security against chargebacks, so if you do decide to switch, I suggest you do so quietly. My philosophy is that if you are not happy with the service and would be happier somewhere else, then by all means change to another provider. After all, only you know what is best for your business. As for the Gateway, I would have to agree with staying with the big providers like AuthNet. I also know some of the former highups at AuthNet/Infospace who have taught me a lot. I have a lot of respect for Sloan, he is a great guy and a great business man.
