I had a page with a missing closing [/showif] tag. I fixed the tag and re-saved the page. Now everytime I call the page, it produces the "Missing tag" error message, even though I have fixed the page. I went further and deleted the page, then saved the fixed version with a different name. The renamed page loads and works correctly. I then saved the known good page with the original name, and continue to get the "missing tag error" I then deleted the page with the original name and attempted to load it with a browser. Even though the page doesn't exist, I get the same "missing tag" error. I know, I know, a reboot will probably clear this up, but I'm just curious.
