texte = In 1997, we produced the NASDTEC Clearinghouse - our first use of WebDNA (Webcatalog back then). NASDTEC is an organization composed of all 50 state education departments, Canadian education offices and some territories. Each jurisdiction records teacher certification information on their state's certified teachers to share with other jurisdictions - loss and reinstatement of credentials, administrative issues, criminal behavior resulting in loss of certification, sex abuse, and a host of other related issues - in order to cross-check teachers who move from one state to another to make sure their backgrounds are thoroughly checked before teaching in another state. Prior to our WebDNA application, it was conducted on a mainframe. Members submitted paper forms which the service entered manually, then sent all jurisdictions disk copies of the entire database monthly. We have migrated their operations over time to a completely web-based service, with each jurisdiction entering reports online, retrieving downloads for processing internally each month in a secure environment, and running administrative reports. Users can easily search the Clearinghouse for information on a person-by-person basis. We are currently in the middle of another major upgrade to add even more security-related functions and reporting. The site uses MySQL as the database with WebDNA as the interface, running in a secure members-only environment. In spite of several high-profile exposures to the Clearinghouse by national media news stories on teacher sexual abuse, the system has never been compromised, and remains a key tool in the ongoing effort to keep students safe in our public schools. Nasdtec Washington State's Election Reporting System was written on WebDNA and we operated it from 1998 to 2004. (They took in in house in 2005.) It was one of the first automatic election reporting systems in the country. The county system allowed counties to post local election results down to the precinct level (the first time this was ever seen in the country).
