texte = My humble 2 cents worth,So far over the many years, WebDNA DB have served us well and has neverfailed us. As large as 32MB file size with 80,000 records and serving theneeds of an SME with 120 terminals accessing it 24/7 ....WEBDNA has not evenburped once. What we have learnt over the years is to structure the DB wellwith sound relational links (better to have more smaller DBs than 1 largeDB) and WebDNA will cause pigs to fly ....;-)For report generation purposes, we work offline using WebDNA on a back-upcum report generation server. That way, we do not hog resources on theprimary WebDNA server. So far, so good ...correction ...DAMN good.Considered going to MySQL and in fact had a team address it early this year. After much effort, the entire team voted to stay with WebDNA DB. Guess Iwould be in the camp that is for all WebDNA DB development and support. ODBCwould be great and having a plug-in / DLL / ODBC for WebDNA DB would be evencooler. We develop a lot of Flash applications that are combined with MDMSoftware to create standalone applications (works on Linux / Macs / PC). MDMsupports ODBC and special plugins for various DB allowing Flash to work andplay with it ....no fuss no pain. We work Flash with WebDNA using adifferent approach. How we wish that WebDNA DB is one of those supportedplug-ins for Flash/MDM.How about what we affectionately call micro-DBserver. Client sidedownloadable WebDNA DBs that can operate locally on any machine. That way,we can have localized DBs running WebDNA dependent applications on a CashTerminal for example and an SME with 120 terminals reporting to a centralmaster WebDNA server for routine bulk uploads. The micro-DBserver featurewill allow us to keep terminals running and operating even if the intranetor internet is down. Now we rely on the master server only.Ah ...I am rambling. Sorry ...I am for WebDNA DB all the way. It has notfailed us yet and god knows, my people love it. It takes the KISS principleseriously and I am for improving it further rather than depending onlicensed Oracle task masters. Oracle always tends to bloat their softwareand make things difficult for the less informed or capable.Cheers Terry NairPrism4u (Singapore)-----Original Message-----From: christophe.billiottet@webdna.us[mailto:christophe.billiottet@webdna.us] Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2010 20:35To: talk@webdna.usSubject: [WebDNA] Use of MySQL with WebDNAGood morning everyone!this email is for WebDNA users working with MySQL. We would like to know howmany of you need MySQL support and the reason why you prefer using MySQLinstead of the internal database system. As you know, MySQL now belongs to Oracle with license restrictions and wewere thinking, in case external database support is necessary, if abetter/faster ODBC support woud not be a more universal idea. We also gaveSQLite a thought, but despite its qualities, the internal WebDNA databasesystem is more powerful. This is not a trivial matter, so we will listen to everyone.thank you!- chris---------------------------------------------------------
