Ads can either be blended into the look and feel of your site or made to stand out. I think you will have a different experience because you have return visitors. From what I have read on webmasterworld.com (yes, there's an adsense forum), sites with huge repeat visitors tend to spike and then tail off. I think that reflects a "hey what's this?" by the users and then a "I know that ad" over time. I think the major criticisms are that there is very weak reporting from google (you can't tell what pages or even domains do well or poorly) and they still pay by check. That said, it's certainly worth a try (there's no sign up fee, although, why would there be?) and google does pay in a fairly timely manner. I certainly understand why they are doing that, though it doesn't fill me with joy. I have a site that is getting about 3000 visits per day and 400,000 page views per month. It is about 50% return traffic as much of the activity is discussion forum stuff. Any of you long timers want to even put me in the ballpark for expectations? Email me directly if you are worried about the google police. I would really like to have some benchmark before I decide to put outside advertising on my sites... And I trust and know many of you and value your opinion.
