Where can I find information about selling ad space on a site? I've been happily existing on subscriptions to a site (without ads on it) for years. Now I'm doing web work for other people as well, and recently agreed to develop a site for free with the agreement that I'd make my money from advertising. Now I need to figure out how the hell to do that. What type of advertising model (static ads, rotating banners, per click rates, flat rates, etc), how to approach potential advertisers, how much to charge, and so on. Cobbling together code to make it happen isn't the issue just yet; it's figuring out WHAT to do. Any friendly advice, or can someone point me to an online resource that compares and evaluates different ad schemes? The site I'm talking about is local yard sale listings, and we're primarily going after local real estate related businesses. But I'm also interested in this info for other types of projects employing useful online databases that are better offered as cheap or free services to the user.
