What is the User set to in Apache's httpd.conf set to? It would appear that Apache is running as the "apache" user and not the "kengrome" user, which would explain why the files are now owned by a different user. If your rights are set correctly, you might be able to run Apache as "apache" and WebCatalog as "kengrome" and it will all work out for you. I haven't played with this that much with WebCat (though I expect to be doing so now that I have WebDNA 6.0 running under Linux). The permissions that WebCatalog uses (644) are much safer than the expanded permissions that were originally there (775) after you uploaded the files. I would have actually had no Other rights at all (640), but that's just me. There isn't a umask setting for the WebCatalog process, so you are limited to what they decided to programmatically set when SMSI wrote the code.
