Web servers >don't have to ability to receive uploads unless you add SiteEdit Pro.I just went through setting up an upload site for a client last week. We're using Tenon's WebTen as a web server (it runs the Apache server in a virtual Unix system on the Mac -- faster than WebStar and with true IP-based multihoming). WebTen can run WebStar plug-ins, but warn that the plug-ins that *come* with WebStar don't comply with WebStar's own specs (!) I tried using the WebStar file upload plug-in anyway, and the results were abysmal. Uploads slogged along at about 1K/sec or less and larger files more often than not crashed the server! Not a good solution. After a little searching, I found a Perl script to handle uploads that I added to WebTen (which runs them in the Unix virtual machine). A few tweaks to the script to fit the site and I was up and running! Uploads run at the full speed of the server, which hasn't crashed since. Coupled with WebCat's commands for generating directory listings, and I got one outstanding workgroup project site! (I love it when all these pieces work together : ) And yes, uploads only work for Navigator 3.0 or higher, but they work fine for Mac or PC and I don't have to do any FTP. If this is an option for you, I can send along the script and instructions for its use.Rob MarquardtDesigner/Resident Wirehead, Toast Designwww.toastdesign.com
