I agree. But also, making the components you see flashing on the screen can be done well or badly and in most cases the difference between a well coded website and a piss poor crap one is technology independent. We just picked up a job of making text, graphical and linking changes to an existing website coded in ASP.On the outside the site looked just fine but once we got our hands on the code we couldn't believe our eyes. The site was made up of over 280 code files. There was not a single folder or directory structure for the site, not one single include was used, each file had its own style sheet and JavaScript code, as well as all the information necessary for the dynamic rollover menus and arrays. Etc It got worse as the coding within the HTML files was so bad that I could only refresh my browser 5-7 times before it ran out of memory and crashed.Building a good website is most times irrelevant of the platform or technology you use and comes down to standards, skill, forethought, providing what the client needs and getting it done within budget and timeline constraints.Having a technology that does wizbang stuff is generally irrelevant to the customer. The customer is only really concerned with a lack of uptime, speed, security or or backup/stability when it isn't there. On 6/8/02 12:19 PM, Stuart Tremain wrote:> Being one of the other 4 'Owners of Development Business (more than 1 > employee)' I confer with Karl. > > We expand and keep business moving along by offering We can do that service > and delivering on what we promise combined with a good deal of marketing > expertise that makes clients sites work for them in the marketplace. > > The web is more than technology and programming, it is a marketing tool and I > believe that is the way to approach existing and new clients.
