Any serious business has expenses and software upgrades are one of them. Each and every person running WebCat 4.5 needs to go through the process of deciding if the upgrade to 5.0 is worth it. Some of the cost will have to be passed on to existing customers (with a business argument why this is important to them) and some will have to be covered by expected new customers. Some people will set up a second server and run 5.0 only for new customers or those existing customers willing to pay for the upgrade. Other people will probably but the upgrade outright and hope to pay for it with new customers alone. Just because I only have to write a P.O. and get it signed doesn't mean I don't watch expenses closely. The fact that 5.0 is coming out is hardly a suprise; SMSI have been talking about it for months. SMSI paid to develop the new version and now it is our turn to pay for the upgrade. I don't know how the breakdown goes, but I wouldn't be suprised if the upgrade license fees are not expected to cover even half of the development costs of the new version.John-- John Peacock Director of Information Research and Technology Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group 4501 Forbes Boulevard Suite H Lanham, MD 20706 301-459-3366 x.5010 fax 301-429-5748 ------------------------------------------------------------- This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list .
