This seems like a 5.2 upgrade with > 6.0 marketing. I started to reply but threw it away because I didn't want to throw accusations around but I guess I will have to retype it again. We actually saw this 6.x snafu coming weeks ago when SMSI did their financial reporting. As a long time follower and on again off again stock owner, we saw the financials come out, stock prices dip (compare to the last reporting increase in stock value) and all stated around here that the next 30 days will be followed by SMSI looking to get more PR to ignite interest. Now, you cant get PR with a .2 release, but you can with a .0 http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/040217/latu042_1.html This PR announcement actually predates the list announcement. Then you see .doc files uploaded to the server to support the announcement (not PDF, not even .tpl). Doc files that are pretty much lacking in any marketing design or brand equity utilization. Couple that with the 'conflicts' of previous statements and intentions of the release and what it looks like is rushed announcement brought on by corporate pressure to use efforts to have positive company financial and PR positions. (not that there is anything inherently wrong with that... Its business after all) Again, I know that nothing I have sated is really 'provable' and it can easily be dismissed as coincidence, arm chair quarterbacking, 20/20 hindsight, or even just plain wrong, but none the less, I thought I would share that we predicted this weeks ago (Feb 6th to be exact). Oh well, like I said, all speculation, and not really list material so I refrained. Coming from someone who is on 4.x, as are the customers that use their own copies of software because of us, I am glad that we waited. Looks like the most cost effective upgrade (if it ever happens at this point) will be to 6 or even 7.x No more flames from me... Just seemed so obvious to us I felt I would offer some perspective. In my mind, customers should NEVER be in a position of commonly questioning their commitment level to a product. Re-evaluating your positions and benefits is something we all should do... Far more often than many of us do (me more than most)... But it seems that that struggling with 'second guessing' commitments is a unfortunate trend here. Oh well... Back into working 4.x into what we need daily.
